( ENSPIRE Community Spotlight ) UNCF Provides Resources and Scholarships to Empower Milwaukee Students

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) recently made a significant impact on the lives of Milwaukee high school students. This past October, the UNCF Empower Me Tour (EMT) returned to Wisconsin, offering a College Readiness Conference and awarding over $14.5 million in scholarships. This event provided crucial resources and guidance to students of color, empowering them to pursue their educational dreams.
The two-day event, held on Oct. 23rd and 24th, catered to over 800 Milwaukee Public School students. Building on the success of their 2023 visit, where they awarded over $5 million in scholarships, UNCF offered workshops, college application assistance, and on-site admissions opportunities. The “How To Pay For College Workshop” on Oct. 23rd provided invaluable financial literacy tools to parents of future college students.
This initiative, sponsored by Wells Fargo and other prominent companies, highlights UNCF’s dedication to educational equity. The EMT program goes beyond scholarships; it equips students with the knowledge and skills to navigate college applications and build a strong financial foundation for their higher education.
“The UNCF Empower Me Tour (EMT) is one of our signature programs as it travels to regions in the United States without HBCUs. At EMT, UNCF brings HBCUs to students who do not have access to, are unaware of, or are not considering attending HBCUs. For UNCF, seeing the excitement in students as they receive on-site scholarships and admissions to attend an HBCU of their choice is extremely rewarding. We are happy to bring our resources and institutions into this market to further educational opportunities for high school students,” said Maurice E. Jenkins, Jr., executive vice president and chief development officer of UNCF.
