Karen Bernod, a renowned Soul/Jazz singer, debuted a new digital release for her album, Some Othaness For U, for the 25th Anniversary. It was released to every major streaming platform on June 27, 2025. The album consisted of 10 remastered tracks by Herb Powers, Jr. of PM Mastering, Inc. They included Endangered Specie, Chillin’ On the DL, Pray, Spirit, Do Ya Wanna Do, The Rest of My Life, Lookin’ For Love, Reminiscin’ On Yo Kissin’, The Pocket, and Spirit (Deeper Remix).

The album cemented Bernod’s flourishing stardom as a distinguished background vocalist to a solo act. Each track brought the right amount of groove and lyrical synchronicity to compel listeners’ attention. The new 25th Anniversary edition added a sense of depth and polish to the classic recordings without compromising what made them special.

On top of the album, Bernod performed at The Loft at City Winery in New York City on June 30th. It was her debut at City Winery and a long-awaited return to live performance. The night featured both Some Othaness for U and classic songs, as well as a preview of her future album, Iris. Bernod attributes it to an emotional homage to her late mom.

“This anniversary is both a full-circle moment and a sort of new beginning for me,” Bernod said. “To revisit and reintroduce Some Othaness For U in a way that honors where I’ve been but simultaneously sets the tone for where I’m going is truly special.”

In May, Bernod began her musical comeback with a special live recording from the past, titled “It Seems To Hang On”. The live was a jazz-themed rendition of the Ashford and Simpson soul disco act. She was joined by her band, Brooklyn Soul, with vocal support from Keith Anthony Fluitt and Mike Hammond. It was recorded and remastered by the Powers Mastering Studio at the New York Highline Ballroom.

From her hometown of Brooklyn over 25 years ago, Karen Bernod broke into the fray with the highly-regarded Some Othaness For You album. Her iconic music catalogue includes Life @ 360 Degrees,  #PlantingSeeds, Four Women: Side 1, and LYFE REMIXED. She’s reached so many people around the globe and performed at many iconic venues like The Blue Note, Joe’s Pub, and Blues Alley.

Karen Bernod’s over 40-year music run has brought life to the R&B and Jazz scene through her talented performances. She was the lead vocalist for three Incognito songs from their hit album Yesterday’s Dream. Bernod was also a writer and vocalist on the Cooltempo club anthem Motherland. Her impressive resume showcases the likes of Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige, D’Angelo, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Stephanie Mills, Paul Simon, the Pet Shop Boys, and Erykah Badu.
