While the Tonys, Met Gala and other significant Hollywood occasions have been dropped or deferred due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 BET Awards are pushing ahead as a virtual festival. The function that perceives and respects Black accomplishments and culture over an assortment of classifications will utilize “a variety of creative methods and craftsman produced content” considering the COVID-19 pandemic. The current year’s show, which denotes the twentieth commemoration of the BET Awards, comes in the midst of fights and calls to end fundamental prejudice.
BET network places “the health and safety of attendees, staff, vendors, and partners first,” Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET, noted, which is why the “biggest night in black entertainment will go on implementing this innovative production direction.”
The awards show will air Sunday, June 28, at 8 p.m. ET with Comedian Amanda Seales serving as this year’s host. While the awards are reportedly airing live, we are guessing some segments will have been prerecorded, including performances. The awards show will be broadcast live across Viacom CBS networks, including BET and BET HER, and will make its national broadcast premiere on CBS.
