( ENSPIRE She Did That ) Podcast Host and Mental Health Advocate Juliet Ramos Provides Support for Those Who Need It
ENSPIRE Contributor: Naomi Stamps
Juliet Ramos is a podcast host and mental health advocate survivor who understands the importance of having a solid support system. While her first name is “Juliet,” her journey hasn’t always been a love story. Despite coming from a large family, being raised by a narcissistic mother, and traumatic childhood memories left her distant. She met her ex-husband when she was 14 and married him eight years later. While their union gifted her with motherhood, Juliet Ramos soon discovered the marriage was toxic.
In 2011, she was placed on a 51/50 hold after she attempted suicide. It was then that she realized it was time to stand against the years of abuse. She divorced her husband in 2017 because she didn’t want her children to view her abusive relationship as acceptable. Juliet Ramos was then faced with another battle—losing custody of her children because of her suicide attempt. While fighting to get her children back, she experienced a lack of self-worth and self-doubt. To regain control, she researched mental health and attended therapy to get the help she needed. Seeing that she needed an outlet to express her emotions, Juliet Ramos’ partner, co-host, engineer, and editor Mike gave her the BrokenGirl Unchained website. Since she majored in communications in college, this was the perfect opportunity to use that knowledge.
What first began as a blog for Juliet Ramos soon grew into a successful podcast. The BrokenGirl Unchained podcast was (and still is) a therapeutic method for Juliet Ramos to share her survival, custody battle and show listeners how to turn a negative into a positive. As her audience grew, she then featured experts, celebrities, and everyday people to share their personal stories and opinions on various topics. Besides mental health, some of the show’s topics include love, loss, heartbreak, and the challenges of divorce. This podcast also helps Juliet Ramos to advocate for causes such as autism awareness, suicide prevention, and sexual abuse.
The BrokenGirl Unchained podcast’s mission is to help people find answers on healing from any trauma and provide them with supporters as they begin their healing journey. The podcast made it to the top 100 podcasts list on iHeart Radio because of her podcast episode “Through the Looking Glass of a 51/50: The True Story of a Suicide Survivor.” This is the podcast where she details the events that occurred in 2011 when she attempted suicide. As she continues to find healing on her journey and fight to get her children back, Juliet Ramos wants others to know that they’re not alone and motivate them to keep fighting.
During the most challenging moments of our lives, sometimes it’s hard to find those who can support and motivate us. Many believe that expressing your emotions makes you weak when it helps you heal and grow stronger. Mental health shouldn’t be taken lightly, and we continue to see its effects every day (especially during the pandemic). It’s inspiring that Juliet Ramos created her own support system when others turned their backs on her and criticized her feelings. She shows the importance of not allowing anyone to take away your voice because it can change our lives and others. Besides this, it shows that we should support those who need it. If we want others to help us, we have to be willing to do the same.
