Growing up in a low-income household, Dr. Donna Patterson worked hard to get where she is today. With multiple nursing degrees — including a Doctorate and Master’s — and certifications like Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support, she is leaving the world of nursing to take a slightly different path: CEO of her very own company, MedSpa, and creator of skincare line Juvenere Skin.

ENSPIRE sat down with Dr. Patterson to discuss her podcast, the importance of skincare, and how her company stands out from the rest.

What are some things you talk about on your podcast/why did you start it?

Hello, Thank you for this opportunity to speak with you. The name of my podcast is “Journey with Dr. Donna”. This podcast was born after recognizing the emotional pain we as women are dealing with daily. Being In the emergency room, I see women and men come in daily seeking help for mental health disorders. I wanted to empower, encourage, and support women while promoting health, beauty, and an overall sense of wellness. I believe we all have a journey, a story (good or bad) and by sharing our individual journeys, we can make a difference in the lives of others.

Do you think having a podcast is a beneficial way to reach a bigger audience, and if so, why?

I believe having a podcast gives me the opportunity to reach audiences across the globe. My goal is to impact lives, beyond the borders of Georgia, but nationally and globally. Having a podcast can give me that advantage and allow me to make a bigger difference in the lives of many.

What was your journey from nurse to CEO like? Which part was the most memorable and which was the hardest?

My journey from the bedside to CEO was very challenging, while also very rewarding.

The hardest part was shifting my mindset from that of an employee to one of a business owner. Having a mindset change gave me a new perspective and a driving force to which I was no longer comfortable simply working for someone else.  However, with this new mindset shift, I now had to learn how to be a business owner, I had to learn marketing, business credit, accounting and all the legalities.  This new role required new knowledge.

The best part for me is being able to freely help someone, to make a difference in the lives of others.  relieving stress, pain and fear and replacing that with a smile.  As a CEO – I am now free to make decisions without having to ask an employer for permission.  I can give back to causes and charities that are important to me – to make a difference.  This is my favorite role of being a CEO.

How important is skincare to our health, and which part of skincare is the most important?

Skincare is very important to our health.  The skin is the largest organ and barrier of our body.  It protects us from viruses, bacteria, and the environment.  When skin health is compromised, bacteria enter our bodies and can make us sick.

Most people think of skincare as facials and aesthetic services only, these are important because proper care of the face and neck helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines, promoting more youthful-looking skin.  However, all areas of our skin is essential, (from our scalp all the way to our feet), If one area of the skin is compromised, our entire body is at risk for disease.  Therefore, maintaining adequate skin health is not just a luxury, but a necessity.

Can focusing on skincare improve our overall health?

Absolutely, by focusing on properly caring for the skin, we can maintain and even enhance our health.  We do this by drinking plenty of water, reducing alcohol intake (dehydrates skin), moisturizing the skin daily and frequently, utilizing sunscreen, keeping our fingernails clean and of course, washing our hands.  Another important aspect of keeping skin healthy is to not pick the skin, especially for that acne prone skin.  This could cause infection, inflammation, scarring and hyperpigmentation, affecting our self-image.

Tell me more about your company MedSpa and skincare line Juvenére Skin. What services do they offer? How did it come to be?

I’ve always wanted to start my own business. Being able to live my purpose as a nurse Practitioner and still impact lives by helping others was the driving force for starting a medical spa. Growing up I had very low self-esteem and did not think I was pretty. This followed me into my adulthood, which required a lot of work to overcome. Therefore, I want to help others look and feel great. My husband supported my dream and today we are proud business owners

Our medspa is Rejuvenére Health and Aesthetics, and we are committed to providing anti-aging, skin rejuvenation facials, non-invasive body contouring, lipo cavitation, PRP hair therapy, IV hydration, and micro-needling to name a few. We will add new services to our menu soon.

In addition, our skincare line Juvenére Skin was born with the sole mission of providing our clients with proven medical-grade skin care products they can use at home. The active ingredients promote cleaner, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin year-round.

How do you stand out from your competitors? What makes your products, services, and way of business better than the rest?

We may offer similar services and products as other medspas, however, we stand out from the crowd by proving the experience clients get from us the moment they make initial contact. We are committed to ensuring clients have information about their services, the aftercare routines, and the follow-up services we provide. We ensure clients are greeted with a smile, that they feel welcome, and are attended to promptly. Providing excellent service is one of our core mission and Excellence Wins Every time.

What’s the number one thing you want your audience and consumers to know about you, skincare‌, and overall health?

Here at Rejuvenére Health, our clients are our primary focus. We want our clients to know that we are passionate about making a difference in their lives; that we understand their issues and concerns and that will provide them with the safest, most effective products and services to suit their skin care needs.

In addition, we want our clients to understand that skin health is vital, a necessity; it requires the same effort we put into brushing our teeth daily. When skin health is compromised, our overall health is also compromised, which puts us at a greater risk for infection. Besides skin health, taking care of our bodies is essential and protects us from certain diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, or obesity. We should ensure we are maintaining a healthy lifestyle replacing unhealthy processed foods with heart-healthy foods and daily exercises. This is how we care for our bodies from the inside out.
