Movies of music legends are what bring true fans and new ones to the theater. We’ve had Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), Rocketman (2019), and recently Elvis (2022), and now coming this April to introduce a film about Little Richard. The official trailer for Little Richard: I Am Everything is out now on Youtube! This will be a documentary film directed by Lisa Cortés, and produced by Robert Friedman, Liz Yale Marsh, Caryn Capotosto, and executive producer Dee Rees.
Little Richard: I Am Everything is going to be a documentary that tells the story of the Black queer origins of Little Richard and his road to stardom. It explores his journey into American pop music in the whitewashed world. The film illuminates the icon’s life story with all its contradictions and bumps in the road. Expect interviews with family, musicians, and Black and queer scholars. It will include archives and performances that bring us into his world, showcasing his journey of self-expression through his art. Little Richard is an innovator and originator who has been put into a box. But, he moves swiftly through God, Sex, and rock n’ roll, and is unabashedly himself. According to Magnolia Pictures, they will release a special one-night-only theater screening on April 11th. Little Richard: I Am Everything will be released to additional theaters on April 21st.
