“A Nashville Legacy” is a movie that made its debut on February 18th, 2023, put out by Hallmark Mahogany which is an expansion of Hallmark Media. Hallmark Mahogany content depicts authentic stories about friendship, family, community, and love through the unique lens of Black women.
The film follows Naima, a woman who moves to Nashville to intern at a prestigious museum while pursuing a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology. During her time working for the museum, she uncovers a mystery surrounding a classic hit, which she finds is the perfect focus for her dissertation. However, as more and more is uncovered about this mystery, it threatens to make waves in the local community and Naima and her new coworker Damian’s budding romance.
The movie is directed by Roger Bobb and stars Andrea Lewis, Pooch Hall, Stan Shaw, and Roz Ryan. With a cameo by Curt Chambers and Ruben Studdard.
Hallmark sponsored a Spotlight Screening at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. The event began with a red carpet event which was attended by the talent from the film, the director, Roger Bobb, and other Hallmark Mahogany talent and friends. Later on, guests gathered in the theater auditorium where there was a screening of the film. Afterward, Jasmine Simpkins of KTLA and Hip Hollywood led the post-screening discussion with Judkins, Bobb, and the film talent.
“A Nashville Legacy” is important because it provides a platform for a group of people who are often not represented enough in the media. Romance movies are often cast by white leads, so the casting is empowering to the Black community. The cast is predominantly Black and follows a female protagonist who uplifts two major communities.
