In what ways is overcoming adversity and using transparency an excellent tool for personal growth?
In today’s climate, everything is superficial or filtered. Every day, people want to see people who are authentic and whom they can trust. While it seems popular and trendy to only show your life’s highlight reels, my crew is empowered by seeing my truths but not allowing them to limit my growth or strangle my joy.
Tell us about your journey in being a successful Black woman-owned business and how it became a lifestyle brand.
My brand started organically after publishing my first book, which my then 9-year-old son essentially wrote. I wanted to have a way to market, promote, and sell my products without relying on outside entities who would not put the effort into bringing my messaging to the world. The lifestyle brand began because I have always wanted others to win, especially the underdogs, the overlooked, and the groups frequently discriminated against or seen as having limited potential. I have been in all those categories. With that at the center of my passion, I have been ignited to help others propel into the best versions of themselves through community, connections, and collaborations.
What strategies can individuals learn and use their whole life to better themselves?
Great question. I created the READER strategy (book forthcoming) where you utilize rest, education, assessment and application, development, evaluation, and then repeat. Often, when we experience trauma, loss, or any other substantial changes, we power through and follow life’s requirements at the moment. When we do this without giving ourselves time to rest and learn, we are highly subjected to burnout, lack of motivation, and settling for the minimum life has to offer.
What are some essential components of becoming a life coach?
Listening to our clients. Oftentimes you can be eager to give advice, but there is so much power in listening fully and then asking curious questions. That extra time and reflection can empower clients to self-identify gaps and opportunities in their lives. My goal is to empower and transform individuals/groups in hopes of integrating lifelong behaviors that transfer from my clients to their circles causing a compounding effect on our world.
Describe the budgeting workshops and what is discussed in workshops for women.
The budgeting workshops are referred to Wealth Is A Journey founder, Che. B. Willis (my husband). He meets with individuals and groups to share the basics of budgeting to help people go from debt to financial freedom to leave a wealth legacy for their families.
Have your experiences shaped these workshops? If so, please explain.
Again, most of what I do comes from the areas I feel strongly about and have overcome myself. Life is our best teacher. I have a longstanding reputation for resiliency, overwhelming, and goal achieving. I have done this despite being born to a teenage mother living in poverty, poor school systems, cities plagued with drugs and violence, infertility, and more.
I had to learn that despite my socioeconomic status, discrimination, and life’s challenges, I am capable and have what I need inside of me to succeed. That is where I go every time I feel disappointed, unsupported, or don’t get the outcome I expected. Through my workshops, I impart this mindset, positive behaviors to release a ‘can do” spirit in my clients, and resources and connections to further sustain my messaging and tools.
On “The Amazing Corner” site, there is a new children’s book and family game in the works. Would you care to share details?
Thank you for asking. Everything I produce will always be about partnering with others in growth. The Dream Builders Series encompasses this. I am creating a children’s activity book, picture book, and family game that not only promotes positive self-imagery and empowerment but also fosters respect for others, inclusivity, and diversity. This project reflects a large portion of what our world looks like, and many people will see themselves in this series. I cannot wait to share it with the world.
Tell us more about the 4th Annual Free Community and Health Fair.
On June 1st, 2023, my company will host a free family/group-friendly event in Middletown, DE, at Doc Levison Park. I bridge health and wellness providers, small business owners, and the Citizens of New Castle County together to learn about the many empowering resources in the state. One healthcare provider described it as a “big party.” We have fun, but we learn and grow together, leaving us with many new resources to improve the health and wellness of those around us. If anyone wants to sponsor this event, please get in touch with me as soon as possible at [email protected] to learn more.
