Jalen Rose Stars in “South West High” on Tubi Releasing February 23

NBA legend Jalen Rose will be debuting his first original television project, “South West High,” through Same Page Entertainment, a Detroit-based multimedia production company founded by Rose himself. The five-episode drama series was co-created, executive-produced by, and starring Rose, and is set to release on Tubi on February 23rd. The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy and its mission of mentorship and education inspire the series. Ty Mopkins and Dennis Reed II of DR II Productions also created “South West High” and executive-produced it. Detroit legend and Grammy Award-nominated artist Royce 5’9” served as music supervisor and composed the original score alongside Denaun Porter.

“We are thrilled to partner with Tubi to debut South West High,” said Jalen Rose, Co-Founder and CEO of Same Page Entertainment. Same Page Entertainment is building a Detroit-rooted entertainment legacy spanning film, television, and podcasts. “South West High” follows former professional basketball player Nolan Thomas (Jalen Rose) as he returns to his alma mater as principal. He is determined to transform the school that once saved him. The TV series explores hope, leadership, sacrifice, and the resilience of educators and students in the urban education system.

The main cast includes Dawn Halfkenny (Bounce TV’s “Saints & Sinners”) as Ava Thomas, Towanda Braxton (“Braxton Family Values”) as Kelli Tillman, Christina Cooper (BET’s “The Oval”) as Starr Bridges, Stevie Baggs Jr. (former NFL linebacker and motivational speaker) as Eric Freeman, Brooklyn “Queen” Oates (social media creator and actor) as Maize Thomas, and Don Brumfield Jr. (stage and independent film actor) as Larry Johnson. Guest stars include Anna Maria Horsford (“Amen,” “Friday”), Sada Baby (Detroit rapper known for “Whole Lotta Choppas”), and Maurielle Lue (“FOX 2 Detroit” news anchor).

Same Page Entertainment develops, produces, finances, and distributes scripted and unscripted film, television, and podcasts. “South West High” sparks conversation, celebrates culture, particularly from Detroit. Rose states, “Since opening the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in 2011, I’ve had a front-row seat to the determination, resilience, and ambition of young people in Detroit. This series is fiction, but the spirit behind it is very real. I wanted to share stories that reflect what I’ve witnessed for years – young people lifting each other and believing in a future full of possibility. Creating this project also gave me the chance to collaborate with my longtime friend and former classmate Ty Mopkins, and continue telling stories rooted in our community.”

Their upcoming projects include a feature documentary on the McDonald’s All American Games for Prime Video, a narrative feature film, and Rose’s return to podcasting from the company’s new downtown Detroit studio.
