( ENSPIRE Music ) Tank Stirs Media As “Turtleneck” Reaches 1 Billion Impressions
R&B musician Tank improvised a gospel-inspired roast of Tyrese’s turtleneck, which evolved from a comedic moment into a full-scale cultural phenomenon, complete with new music and fan popularity. The most recent performance on “Verzuz,” an Apple Music show, was between Tank and Tyrese, both astounding music performers in their own right, competing head-to-head in a battle of words. With a full band and background of vocalists, Tank’s now iconic “Turtleneck” song climbed the music ladder as Instagram Reels’ #3 sound on audio charts.
The conversation about “Turtleneck” didn’t just trend at #1 on X; it is now the #1 most-watched video on Apple Music. The sound has surpassed over 1 billion impressions, causing a media stir with the #TurtleNeckChallenge, where content creators lip-synced Tank’s song while wearing a turtleneck. Fans practically demanded Tank’s freestyle be a formal release, which is how “Turtleneck” is a standalone single on all streaming platforms. Beyond the success of his freestyle roast, Tank shows once again his power as a vocalist. His latest song “Control” holds the #1 spot for a second week in a row on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. Tank left an impact in the R&B community with his musical clap back, having audiences laugh and dance towards his creative words, even Tyrese is taking the growing popularity in stride, as seen in the “Verzuz” performance.

Of course, during Tank’s performance on “Verzuz” he went through his smooth record hits such as “When We”, “Please Don’t Go,” “Maybe I Deserve,” “Slow,” and so much more. When the performance reached the end, collaborators J. Valentine, Jamie Foxx, LeToya Luckett, and Bobby Newt joined him on stage. Jamie Foxx praised Tank, reflecting on his second chance at life and gave Tank his appreciation and acknowledgment of the support during that time. With Tank receiving his flowers and a viral performance in “Verzuz” history, he has 11 songs that have hit the #1 Billboard Adult R&B Airplay hits. Beyond music, he is soon to appear as Eric Cropper in season 4 of Hulu’s hit series “Reasonable Doubt.” Tank has gone full circle on all counts and is the talk of all things music and entertainment.
