Founder and CEO of I&D 101 Inc., a consultancy specialized in inclusion and diversity, Jamile Cruz is the recent recipient of the 2021 Report on Business Changemakers award. The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine produces this new editorial award program showcasing emerging leaders in business.
Cruz is one of 50 inaugural winners of the award, being selected by The Globe and Mail’s award-winning editorial team based on her ideas, accomplishments and impact, subsequent interviews, and reference checks. They recognize recipients as innovators in the business world, paving the way and making a remarkable impact.
“This award is more than a professional or a business recognition, being part of this group of leaders, the Changemakers, showcases Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) as a business priority, and shows that business leaders want to take the next steps to improve the culture of their workplaces,” Cruz says about the award. “I am excited to be among leaders from many backgrounds and business focuses and believes that working together we can create sustainable businesses that can lead change and create positive impacts in our society.”
Cruz has dedicated over 20 years to her mission of changing work cultures to include all people. She earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s certificate in project management and project management professional certification. In 2018, Cruz founded her company I&D 101 to work with organizations to create a space of inclusion and thus strengthen performance and enable superior business results.
Her experience spans multiple industries including mining, engineering, telecommunications, and management consulting. Advising with high-performing organizations such as Hatch, Vale, and Accenture, Cruz has vigorously worked to design projects, implement new programs, and transform businesses for the better. One of her most notable project leads is the Action Plan for Advancement of Women in the Brazilian Mining Industry, an initiative towards improving gender inclusion within the mining industry.
In addition to their work with organizations, Cruz and I&D 101 run a blog on their official website, which various notable publications have recognized. The blog provides additional resources for education on creating a greater social impact by creating more inclusive and diverse work environments.
Outside of the company, Cruz leads the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce D&I committee, and also serves as Board Director of Women in Mining (WIM) Canada and Founding Director of Women in Mining (WIM) Brazil. In her spare time, she takes part in regular community service, speaking engagements, workshops, and presentations for various organizations.
