The “Black Writers Weekend 21” ran from June 10th to June 13th and was a “LIT Experience” for budding writers. Fused with Hollywood’s most influential professionals, writers made connections that advance their careers as it was the only weekend where they could meet their favorite author, screenwriter, and film and television stars – all in one location. Before entering the LIT Experience, participants could meet with friends at one of the LIT crawls, just before stepping into the LIT social where they may enjoy a drink while getting acquainted with others who have similar goals. In addition, the event included live readings, parties, movie screenings, and masterclasses, a Black Writers Weekend specially created for creatives and culture lovers.

Black Writers Weekend founder Tamika Newhouse moderated the star-studded affair, with a live conversation with show creator Leigh Davenport & lead actress Bresha Webb of the STARZ series Run The World. The panel did an extensive dive into the series that depicts Black women’s journey of discovering Herself, Her love language, and Her inner power with the support of Her girlfriends.

The weekend exploded with opportunities to hear from industry professionals. The event’s participants included Mimi Chan, a Marketing Strategist, Diversity & Multicultural Brand Builder, and Partnership & Product Innovator. Chan shared with participants tips on easy and effective ways to build their readership and help readers discover your book Goodreads. M’Shai Dash, who held the “Intersections of Speculative Fiction and Social Activism,” insights used to craft well-written speculative fiction, and what readers can take away from their stories, is the point in which the genre intersects with activism. And the list goes on.

You can find the full details of the event on the Black Writer’s Weekend website.
