Micky James is a new artist who grew up in the shadows of Philadelphia and New York City. Micky James wanted to be a performer since he was a child. Mickey’s music and personal style explore a sound and aesthetic reminiscent of a bygone period in rock n roll while retaining a contemporary pop aim. Micky’s vocals are reminiscent of David Bowie and Julian Casablancas character voices, which have mysterious and romantic elements unique to those artists. Micky talks about loneliness, grief, sadness, and mental illness, all of which can negatively affect your relationships.
The authentic energy of the 1960s and 1970s is Micky’s inspiration, and he is creating a current and creative approach to a timeless genre. “I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist,” James explained. Though the video feels very colorful, and Micky is dressed flamboyantly in fluorescent colors and an artificial eye, those superficial things are all there to literally “mask” one’s true self or the darker parts of oneself.
Micky’s musical pieces have such a deep meaning and discuss how individuals hide their emotions and display their happier side, which Mickey suggests in the video using clothing of bright colors. Micky is only at the beginning of his musical career and is eager to release more tracks.
