Stella Prince is a 16-year-old star on the rise after releasing three hit singles. Specifically, her new single “The Rain Might Fall,” released September 24, 2021, examines the uncertainty of life. The New York Hudson Valley native has been influenced by many other unique stars such as Joni Mitchell and EmmyLou Harris. She has performed in many venues across Nashville and Los Angeles, including Bluebird Cafe and Pig N’ Whistle. Stella has always had a passion for music, but recently, her music has finally been released to the public eye. Her determination to study music began when she was only three years old. However, she did not start training until age 7. Her parents were both artists and inspired her by having old vinyl around the house. This helped her achieve the authentic folksy voice she wanted. When her dog died at age 10, she wrote a song titled “Old Dog” to pour all of her emotions and creativity onto a page. That struck the chord, and that is when she knew music was her life.

The new song addresses a variety of positive statements, including change, uncertainty, and hope. The song’s title, “The Rain Might Fall,” speaks to people trying to remain positive during hard times. During the pandemic, the world is constantly changing, and this song can serve as a reminder that we’re all okay. Her vulnerability and authenticity draw listeners in by allowing us to feel what she feels. During the times we are living in; currently, her lyrics can help us heal from the world’s uncertainty right now. “The Rain Might Fall” reminds us that the thunder is the all-knowing storm, and the rain is what’s about to change. It is a calming indication that we have to trust what will happen next even when time moves so quickly before our eyes.

ENSPIRE talked to Stella Prince about her new single, “The Rain Might Fall,” her songwriting process, and her determination to be a professional singer.

What inspired you to begin singing?

I’ve always known my entire life that this was what I was meant to do. I asked my parents for voice lessons at four years old. Also, at age 4, I would put on a CD and play it repeatedly until I’d memorized the songs and then perform them for my family. So in a way, I’m just doing the grown-up version of that and sharing it with the world.

What message would you like listeners to hear with your new song, “The Rain Might Fall”?

“The Rain Might Fall” paints the picture of what it’s like to wait for change. It can almost feel like a dream that can suddenly move quickly, and everything can be changed forever. The thunder is the energy that knows what will happen next, and you have to trust that it’s all-knowing. The thunder is the intuition that something’s about to happen before the storm.

What is one success story you have had since releasing your new single?

Since my first single release back in March of this year, I’ve been lucky enough to have my music played on some radio stations across the country. It’s been an exhilarating experience so far!

What is a challenge you’ve faced?

Trying to stay positive when so many terrible things are happening in the world right now. But that’s where the power of music really comes in–it can touch so many people in the worst of times.

Can you describe your songwriting process? What inspires you?

It’s honestly different every time. For some of my songs, I’ll know exactly what I want to say days before I sit down to write it, and I’ll have the exact melody in my head, and it will come so quickly and easily. Other times I have no idea what I want to say, and I’ll play around with a melody and have to see what thoughts come up. Either way, it always feels like a gift.

What would you like your purpose to be in life?

My life goal is to bring authenticity back to contemporary music. I believe that meaningful lyrics that paint a picture and tell a story are why the power of music resonates with everyone.

Do you have any plans for more songs in the future?

Yes! I hope to release more singles over the remainder of 2021, hopefully in November and December of this year. Very excited to share more of my original music with the world!

What motivated you to write this song, “The Rain Might Fall”?

Definitely, the fact that none of us know what’s going to happen next. That is something I’m constantly frustrated with– the idea of not knowing what my life will look like.
