On Thursday, April 13, attendees jump-started their 14th annual Desert Gold programming series, hosted by Ace Hotel & Swim Club, with a party in The Amigo Room soundtracked by New York-based record label DFA Records. Throughout the first weekend of Coachella, starting from Thursday, April 13th through Sunday, April 16th, festival-goers and musicians including Thundercat and Dorian Electra danced the afternoon away poolside to sounds by Andre Power’s LINK UP on Friday and Saturday, and beats by Los Angeles-based community radio station dublab on Sunday. Legendary party The Do-Over closed out weekend one with stacked sets in the Ace Hotel & Swim Club’s The Commune featuring Moodymann, TROPKILLAZ, Busy P, and Benji B. People such as Melanie C, Musician; Thundercat, Musician; Dorian Electra, Musician; Chloe Wise, Artist; Alex Cameron, Singer-Songwriter; Big Boss Vette, Rapper; The Dare, Musician, and many others attend to make the event a hit success.

Also on-site throughout the weekend were LA-based eyewear brand Akila, and Pitchfork Live with exclusive interviews, intimate live performances, and DJ sets curated by Pitchfork’s music editors and favorite artists. The weekend also marked the debut of Superbloom – illustrator, painter, and surface designer Kim Sielbeck’s 2023 large-scale mural on the Commune wall, an annual tradition at the hotel.

Kim Sielbeck is an illustrator, painter, and surface designer. Her work can be found in illustrations, packaging, clothing, magazines, and murals throughout the world. She moved often as a military child, spending extended periods of time in Hawaii and New York City, and while she is still moving often as a military spouse, she is currently living in the Mojave desert with her husband Bryce. Places in the world greatly influenced her work, including the mural on the Commune wall she finds herself, often inspired by pops of color, cute dogs, delicious food, and the local natural landscape. No matter the project, her main focus is to spread joy and to create a colorful, silly, and harmonious version of the world she wishes to live in.

Ace Hotel & Swim Club, is a modern, mid-century desert marvel, born in 2009 in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. An all-inclusive spa and resort within biking distance of downtown, Ace Hotel & Swim Club is close to Joshua Tree, the Salton Sea, Salvation Mountain, all kinds of historic desert modern architecture, and tons of great vintage shopping. It’s also the best place in Palm Springs to get a laid-back massage or natural treatment at the Feel Good Spa or to get hitched under big skylights for a dreamy desert to-do. Two pools, a vintage photo booth, tacos, and more at King’s Highway, nightly events at the Amigo Room, and a gym round out the basics. The beautiful design and amenities given at this location made it the perfect location to host a festival weekend.
