Walt Disney Animation Studios recently partnered with Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali to create an original animated series set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria. The movie centers on the coming-of-age story of a young girl named Tola, who is from a wealthy island. Her best friend Kole, a self-taught tech expert, joins her as they discover the “secrets and dangers hidden in their different worlds.”

“Bursting with unique visual elements” and “technological advancements inspired by the spirit of Lagos,” Iwájú was created by Kugali filmmakers Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, Hamid Ibrahim and Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku. A sneak peek of the film was also showcased at the Pan-African Film Festival this month. The trailer alone features luminous colors and stunning graphics, promising a fast-paced story with humor and adventure.
