Since the start of the pandemic, we are hearing more and more about celebrities stepping up and helping their communities. Rapper 2Chainz and his business partner Mychel “Snoop” Dillard are among many of them, as last week the pair donated hundreds of meals to Clayton County medical workers who are on the frontlines fighting against the spread of COVID-19. They chose to help Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale because they wanted to shine a light on a smaller hospital in Atlanta that hasn’t received the attention or support like larger and more well-known hospitals Emory and Grady. As owners and operators of Escobar Restaurant and Tapas Lounge, located on Peters Street in Castleberry Hill, they felt as though contributing food to these hardworking essential workers made the most sense.
For a few years now, 2Chainz has been involved in helping the community through his TRU Foundation, which is focused on stimulating the younger generation in promoting “balanced, respectful and enriched relationships and aim to create life-changing moments and help build a positive outcome for our young generation.” Founded in 2016, the foundation has also made lunches for the homeless and needy, provided furnishings, and paid a year’s worth of rent for disabled veterans in Atlanta, as well as given food and toys to children in need in their local communities. In 2019, the foundation donated a home to a family of 11, after discovering the health & eviction issues via a GoFundMe account. The TRU Foundation surprised the family with a new 5 bedroom home from the proceeds made from Dabbin’ Santa sweater sales.
2Chainz and his business partner Snoop felt as though it was only right that they contribute in any way possible when things affect their community. They are a positive example of how celebrities can use their resources to help those in need around them. By utilizing their access to food and the TRU Foundation, they were able to give back and get involved in the COVID-19 relief efforts. It is great to see healthcare workers receiving the help they need in this difficult time, as celebrities are coming together to lend a helping hand and make a difference. By assisting communities during this coronavirus outbreak, these efforts can help those who have been putting their lives on the line in order to save and protect the lives of many.
In addition to donating meals to Southern Regional Medical Center, 2Chainz along with the TRU Foundation brought meals to families and healthcare workers at the Atlanta Pediatric Hospital. Their efforts continue to impact the lives of those in Atlanta, and if you are interested in becoming a volunteer with TRU Foundation, or donating toward their efforts amid the global pandemic, please visit https://www.tru-foundation.org/.
