( ENSPIRE Music ) Young Fan’s Sign Gets Noticed by Kendrick Lamar, and Lamar Gives the Concertgoer a Speech He’ll Never Forget

One nine-year-old the internet is now calling “Young Kendrick” just had the best first concert of his life. Young Kendrick aka Kendrick Stewart was actually named after rapper Kendrick Lamar by his father David Stewart. So it was only fitting that Young Kendrick’s first concert was a Kendrick Lamar concert.
On August 14, Dave and Kendrick went to the Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit. This was one of Kendrick Lamar’s stops on his Big Steppers Tour promoting his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. They managed to snag front-row seats! And Young Kendrick brought in a simple sign with him. It read “MY NAME IS Kendrick. This is my 1st concert. Can We Take a Pic.” Little did Young Kendrick know he was going to get much more than a picture.
Midway through the concert, Kendrick Lamar noticed Young Kendrick and his sign. He addressed Young Kendrick directly in front of the entire stadium. Lamar crouched down and gave Young Kendrick a shout-out. The crowd roared with excitement!
After confirming that Young Kendrick’s parents were with him, Lamar said, “Always honor them, man. They brought you to your first concert. Always respect and honor them. They want what’s best for you, you know?”
It is difficult to understand Kendrick Lamar’s moving speech because the crowd is so loud. He addresses Young Kendrick directly saying, “You will forever be great. You’re great right now. You can do whatever you wanna put your mind to, you know it? You understand that?”
Kendrick Lamar then ends his message with a more sentimental tone: “I remember when I was your age as well. Dreaming. Little Kendrick, do what you wanna do in life.” At this last sentence, the crowd went wild, cheering for the young man. Throughout the rest of the concert, Kendrick Lamar would occasionally still address Young Kendrick by pointing at him, calling out “Little Kendrick,” and dancing toward him.
But the fun wasn’t over yet! After the performance, Kendrick Lamar handwrote a letter on the back of Young Kendrick’s sign. The letter said, “Young Kendrick. Thank you for coming. I’m glad we got to exchange energy. You are special. Continue to manifest the great energy you possess!!! See you next time!!! Luv!!!”
The Stewarts were so touched by Kendrick Lamar’s speech and letter that they shared their story on social media. Almost immediately, it went viral! In an Instagram story on August 16, David shared his side of the story. “I named my son after Kendrick 9 years ago. I was at a Kendrick Lamar concert the moment my son was born!!” he said. “And for that moment to take place is definitely amazing that the universe came back full circle like that!”
