Singer, songwriter, performance artist, actress, among many other things; the multi-hyphenate Solange Knowles is making musical headlines once again. On August 16th, the artist announced through Twitter that she has composed an original score for the New York City Ballet. Solange is the third woman ever, and the second Black woman to have a score commissioned by the ballet; the first being Lido Pimienta, who composed “Sky to Hold” in 2021 for the ballet.

The score will be performed by the City Ballet Orchestra and a soloist from the artist’s ensemble, accompanied by choreography from Gianna Reisen, who made her own headlines in 2017, becoming the youngest person to choreograph for the ballet at only 18 years old according to Playbill.

The score will debut on September 28th at the David H. Koch Theater for the ballet’s annual Fall Fashion Gala. This year’s gala will honor the vice chair of the ballet, actress Sarah Jessica Parker, and numerous designers and choreographers of the event from previous years for their visionary contributions. Among the chairs of this year’s event are talk show host Andy Cohen, and actresses Laverne Cox and Diane Kruger. Tickets for the gala range from $750 to $20,000.

The composition will also be performed in multiple other shows at the Lincoln Center beginning in October on the 1st, 8th, 11th, and 16th. Fans will also have the opportunity to see the show next year in May on the 2nd, 11th, 13th, 17th, and 18th at the same venue.

New music from Solange is long-awaited since her last release was her critically acclaimed 2019 album When I Get Home. While we wait for the release of the composition, you can listen to Solange’s most recent album below, and follow her Twitter account for more updates.
