Filmmakers like Andre K. Jefferson use their creative skills and create impactful short films such as “Heartbeat”. “Heartbeat” is a short film that was released on May 20th at Succulent Studios in the city of South Gate. Mental health has become such an important mainstream topic for creatives and those who have experiences with mental health concerns. “Heartbeat” is about a woman in search of her heartbeat, now that she’s off her medication she tries to search for her place in the world. The Heartbeat Short Film Premiere and Mental Health Panel for this screening was hosted by Marcus Paulk who is from the UPN show Moesha. Andre K. Jefferson is holding the panel for “Heartbeat”. The short film sheds light on the complexities behind mental health. It’s important to have the available tools to help suicide prevention and the power of second chances.
“Heartbeat” gives us a visual of hope and survival as we view the inside of the minds of a person’s mental health fight. I strongly believe these messages will inspire today’s youth, young adults, and all older adults alike. Because mental health is important and we’re still navigating how to take care of ourselves emotionally. The cast members that were at the event included Monica Davis, Quentari Walker, Conisha Wade, Tristian Bobo, and Ahmir K. Jefferson. The event partners for this occasion were The Los Angeles County Take Action for Mental Health, This is My Brave, KBLA 1580 AM Talk Radio, and African Communities Public Health Coalition.
Andre Jefferson was a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology. He is an actor, toured the United States in several stage plays, and has been featured on Disney Channel, Netflix, ABC, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Andre has performed at the Washington D.C. Theatre Festival. He is also a writer, his last feature film, “Brother’s Keeper,” is currently in distribution and now his latest work “Heartbeat” premiered in Los Angeles. Andre Jefferson is a director, author, poet, producer, and advocate who wants to change the world through his voice and writing one production at a time.
