On Friday, February 18th, 2022, the art personality wrapped Friday’s Frieze events with a post-Frieze party at Sunset beneath The West Hollywood EDITION. During festivities, Jerry Gogosian debuted the original sculpture, the “Rabbit 02”. The event at the famed nightclub, Sunset, beneath The West Hollywood EDITION included guests like Dylan Brosnan, Moses Sumney, and Ronan Day-Lewis. The party was covered in four hundred disco balls accompanied by the music of DJs Ben Lee, Ritchie Handler, and “Whits & Giggles” (Shelley Holcomb and Whitney Gibson).
The sculpture “Rabbit 02” brings Jerry Gogosian’s memes to life. The commentary is obvious: the commercialization of art, the “male gaze” dominating art history, and the art market’s obsession with money, sex, and power. There are also abstract and subtle historical art references, like Bernini’s “The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa.” For the chrome finish, Jerry used a fabricator used by artists Jeff Koons and KAWS, both featured frequently in Jerry’s memes. In a coup de grâce emphasizing technology and our collective direction toward the metaverse, Rabbit 02 sports Google Glass glasses—or at least did, until someone stole them off her face at the party.
