Kaijah Wilson flourishes in entrepreneurship. She is a seasoned business owner who went from managing a million-dollar retail business to finding eight daycare centers. At the age of 27, she took what knowledge she had honed and started her business journey. Her daycare centers have contributed to the community in the past six years, providing childcare jobs and supporting families. Wilson’s titles include Store Manager, President, and Owner of her enterprise. Her Daycare Centers, such as Tiny Tots Academy 1,2,3,4, Tiny Tots Academy West, Tiny Tots Before and After, Sauk Village Academy, and Sauk Village Before and After, serve as safe havens for children and teachers alike.

Her beauty business in Chicago called The Beauty Vault, brings luxury and a diverse range of products and employs local women in the community. This shopping experience stands out because of the personal needs and educated advice they give customers in this beauty supply store. Her expansion plans are becoming a reality as she takes her entrepreneurial skills to Houston, TX, and Atlanta, GA, to launch two more luxury beauty supply stores. In addition, she plans to release her first e-book in 2024, which shares her experiences in opening Beaty Vault to guide aspiring Black entrepreneurs in navigating the market.

What are some of the highs and lows of being an operating store manager and now owning your enterprise?

There are days when you don’t get any support, and those are the lows. Being an entrepreneur can be really draining. When you’re working for yourself, you must have tough skin and a strong mindset. The high and rewarding part is reaping the benefits of your hard work.

What are some of the essential tools in entrepreneurship that guided you into founding your eight successful daycare centers? What knowledge did you have to learn hands-on before taking on this project?

Honestly, I would say it’s either in you or not. My inspirations come from how hard I was willing to go for myself and my family and how I wanted to change the narrative of teen moms and college dropouts. As long as you have the will to keep going and are passionate about your craft, you will succeed. Those were the only tools I needed.

Why did you expand your luxury beauty supply store, The Beauty Vault, to Houston and Atlanta? What do you hope the future holds with your enterprises?

I decided to expand my businesses to Houston and Atlanta because both of their cities are very black and minority business friendly. The people, environments, and cultures are different, but most importantly, no one is doing precisely what I’m doing. Both cities offer better opportunities, and after visiting these cities, l don’t see anyone doing what I’m doing. Yes, there are Black-owned beauty supply stores, but I don’t see them taking a chance and stepping outside of the box, so I want to be the first to do so.

You will be releasing an e-book. What can readers look forward to, specifically those who seek information on being entrepreneurs?

It’s been hard getting that together, but it’s still in the works. My E-Book will serve as a resource that can help inspire entrepreneurs, especially people interested in the beauty world or opening a Beauty supply business, and give them the steps. I feel like other business owners can learn from the mistakes I made.

You will be opening up your 9th Daycare Center. Are there any details on that project, and what will make it stand out from the rest?

It’s actually already open; I just finished all the changes this year. It is the second largest center in Illinois; the name of it is Kash Chicago Kids Club, and I’m so excited it’s located in the inter-city of Chicago.

“I want to give them direction on what to do. We are 100% the consumers, and we own less than 10% of the market,” Wilson says. Kaijah Wilson will open a 9th daycare center and launch new initiatives for Black men and women. To visit The Beauty Vault in the Chicago or Houston area, visit https://beautyvaulta.com/.
