Ruben Studdard rose to fame 20 years ago as the winner of the second season of American Idol. Later that same year Ruben received his first Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “Superstar”. Since then, Ruben has released six studio albums, including his platinum-selling debut, “Soulful”, and the top-selling gospel follow-up, “I Need an Angel”.
“The Way I Remember It,” is the first single from Ruben Studdard’s forthcoming album. The ballad is globally available now via all streaming and downloading platforms. “The Way I Remember It” is a classic love song written and produced by Belewa Muhammad. Ruben has long been compared to Luther Vandross, a legend in the Soul and R&B genre. The two share sweet and soulful voices and deeply emotional lyrics. Ruben even released a cover album titled Ruben Sings Luther in 2018. On his new single, Ruben says “It’s just the kind of Luther-style ballad folks have been waiting for from me!”
Ruben’s upcoming album will be released in September and will be Ruben’s first full project under his new label partnership with Legend Tribe, RCS, and the SRG-ILS Group. Ruben Studdard is currently on his national tour, with best friend and fellow American Idol contestant, Clay Aiken on the “RUBEN & CLAY TWENTY YEARS | ONE NIGHT TOUR.” Clay was the second-place finisher on the second season of American Idol, and the two have been friends and musical partners since.
Although he is more well-known for his recording career, he has also had a notable acting career on both stage and screen. Most notably, he toured with Robin Givens in the comedy-drama I Need a Hug and in 2008 starred as Fats Waller in the national tour revival of Ain’t Misbehavin’.
